Web Production Specialist

About The Position

The Web Production Specialist, reporting to the Vice President for Research (OVPR), will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing OVPR’s public-facing websites and intranet using Drupal. This role involves managing website content, functionality, accessibility, links, forms, search, and access restrictions. The specialist will stage, publish, and validate website updates, and coordinate website changes with communications staff and subject-matter experts. Additionally, they will manage projects with external web development vendors, including scoping work, prioritizing deliverables, monitoring progress, troubleshooting, testing, and resolving issues. This position serves as the first responder for website outages and other time-sensitive issues. The role also contributes to new website development and major redesign and redevelopment projects, advising on web architecture, design, accessibility, security, SEO/AEO, user experience, and other web best practices. The specialist will identify opportunities to improve OVPR websites and digital communications, proofread and edit web content, and collaborate with Communications colleagues and stakeholders across MIT to ensure websites are accurate, accessible, user-friendly, and aligned with OVPR priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of three years of experience in web production using content management systems, including Drupal
  • Knowledge of web development principles and best practices
  • Experience applying accessibility best practices to digital communications materials
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google collaborative tools
  • Familiarity with HTML and website analytics and monitoring tools

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing a website redesign or rebuild with an external design/development vendor
  • Experience in higher education or a policy-driven environment
