About The Position

Mass General Brigham relies on a wide range of professionals to advance its mission of patient care, research, teaching, and community service. The Department of Molecular Biology (MolBio) at MGH is a world-class research community focused on leading-edge research in molecular biology, genetics, bioinformatics, and related disciplines. MolBio seeks an experienced, highly motivated Web Developer to manage existing web applications and lead the technical direction of the department's technology stack. This role requires advanced capabilities in modern application architecture, security, and deployment to ensure continuity of critical departmental systems. The developer will design and maintain production-grade, multi-user web applications, implement secure authentication and authorization workflows, and collaborate with scientists, administrators, and technical teams to develop custom web applications for administrative and research needs. The position also involves driving the adoption of modern web technologies and owning the end-to-end development of features and systems, writing clean, efficient, and well-tested code adhering to enterprise security standards, and a willingness to learn new technologies.

Requirements

• 3-5 years of experience in modern full-stack web development.
• Backend and frontend development experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
• Extensive experience building and working with relational databases.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills with the ability to understand and discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences.
• Able to lead projects and manage stakeholders, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring successful deadline-driven outcomes are met.
• Extremely self-motivated, with great time management skills and exceptional attention to detail.
• Bachelor's Degree in a related field of study preferred.
• 5-7 years of experience in web application development or a related field.
• Experience with web application development frameworks.
• Strong understanding of web application architecture and design patterns.
• Strong knowledge of web development technologies.
• Experience with cloud-based web application development.
• Experience with database design and development.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with modern frameworks (e.g., Linux, Unix as well as React, Vue, Angular, Svelte).
• Experience with modern content management systems, including integrating and customizing CMS platforms for dynamic content delivery.
• Familiarity with version control, code reviews, monitoring tools, logging frameworks, and automated deployment practices.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement web applications that meet the business needs of an organization.
• Work with business stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements for web applications.
• Collaborate with other IT professionals to develop web application architectures that are scalable, secure, and maintainable.
• Develop and maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of web application architectures, designs, and code.
• Provide technical guidance and leadership to other developers on the team.

• Collaborate with scientists, administrators, and cross-functional technical teams to design and develop custom web applications tailored to both administrative and research needs.
• Drive the adoption of modern web technologies, tools, and methodologies that will improve efficiency and productivity within the department.
• Own the end-to-end development of features and systems – from architecture and implementation to optimization and long-term maintenance.
• Write clean, efficient, and well-tested code that adheres to best web development practices and the broader enterprise security standards.
• Adapt to learn new technologies and approaches.
