About The Position

This is a contract role for a Web Designer Master with the DC Government. The primary focus will be on Drupal development and architecture, including developing, configuring, and maintaining websites using Drupal 9/11. The role involves building custom modules, themes, and integrations, ensuring code quality, and performing regular site maintenance, security patches, and module upgrades. Additionally, the position requires troubleshooting site issues, optimizing websites for speed, accessibility, SEO, and mobile responsiveness, and maintaining documentation. Integration with third-party systems and working with cloud hosting environments are also key aspects. The Web Designer Master will collaborate with UX/UI designers, partner with content editors, participate in Agile ceremonies, and provide technical guidance. The contract also includes responsibilities for designing and building web pages, developing user interface features, and contributing to the overall look and feel of the organization's online offerings to support strategic goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–5+ years of experience developing with Drupal (including Drupal 9/10/11).
  • Strong proficiency in PHP, Twig, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and responsive design.
  • Experience with Composer, Drush, Git, and modern development workflows.
  • Knowledge of MySQL/MariaDB and database optimization.
  • Experience with cloud hosting platforms (Acquia, Pantheon, AWS, Azure).
  • Understanding of web accessibility standards (WCAG), security best practices, and performance optimization.
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field or equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with headless or decoupled Drupal architectures.
  • Familiarity with React, Vue, or other modern JavaScript frameworks.
  • Experience with Docker or containerized development environments.
  • Acquia Drupal Developer or Site Builder certification.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, configure, and maintain websites using the latest versions of Drupal (9/10/11).
  • Build custom modules, themes, and integrations following Drupal best practices.
  • Implement and maintain content types, views, taxonomies, blocks, and menus.
  • Ensure code quality through version control, peer reviews, and adherence to coding standards (Drupal Coding Standards, PSR‑4, Composer workflows).
  • Perform regular updates, security patches, and module upgrades.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve site issues, performance bottlenecks, and compatibility problems.
  • Optimize websites for speed, accessibility (WCAG 2.1+), SEO, and mobile responsiveness.
  • Maintain documentation for configurations, custom code, and deployment processes.
  • Build and maintain integrations with third‑party systems (REST, API, GraphQL, SSO, CRM, payment gateways, etc.).
  • Work with cloud hosting environments (Acquia, Pantheon, AWS, Azure) to deploy and manage Drupal applications.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployments.
  • Work closely with UX/UI designers to implement modern, user‑friendly interfaces.
  • Partner with content editors to improve workflows, permissions, and editorial experience.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, standups, retrospectives).
  • Provide technical guidance and recommendations to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Designs and builds web pages using a variety of graphics software applications, techniques, and tools.
  • Designs and develops user interface features, site animation, and special-effects elements.
  • Contributes to the design group's efforts to enhance the look and feel of the organization's online offerings.
  • Designs the website to support the organization's strategies and goals relative to external communications.
