About The Position

Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on M240D machine guns and other associated equipment, mounts, squibs, CAD/PAD, and shop support items in accordance with Company Standard Operating Procedures and the PWS. This role involves cleaning and corrosion treatment, component removal and replacement, and flightline functions including preflight and postflight weapons requirements. The position also requires documentation of all actions, adherence to security procedures, and compliance with munitions accountability requirements. Additionally, the Weapons Mechanic III may conduct training, provide technical guidance, perform inspections, and operate Ground Support Equipment. A comprehensive understanding of technical data, safety, and environmental issues related to weapons maintenance is essential.

Requirements

  • USAF or equivalent Weapons formal military training required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD secret security clearance.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Recent experience at the craftsman level (7 level) (or equivalent) as a Weapons/Armament specialist (5 years within the last 7 years).
  • Must possess a comprehensive understanding of Weapons technical procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of Weapons maintenance procedures, troubleshooting, technical publications, special tools, test equipment, and safety procedures required.
  • Weapons qualifications and munitions handling certifications as applicable.
  • Working knowledge of IMDS and other computer programs.

Responsibilities

  • Performs cleaning and corrosion treatment on gun system components.
  • Removes and replaces aircraft installed weapons systems components and equipment.
  • Removes and installs guns.
  • Perform flightline functions including preflight and postflight weapons requirements to include guard duties as directed.
  • Document all inspection and maintenance actions in aircraft forms and IMDS.
  • Follows established armory and maintenance room security procedures.
  • Complies with flightline munitions accountability requirements IAW AFI 21-201.
  • Conducts weapons academy training IAW AFI 21-101 for Weapons Mechanics as needed.
  • Provides technical advice, guidance, and assistance to weapons maintenance personnel and others.
  • Performs Red X and IPI inspections.
  • Performs basic helicopter ground handling procedures such as towing, jacking, refuel/defuel as needed.
  • Practices good housekeeping, tool control, FOD awareness/prevention, and safety at all times.
  • Applies technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufactures’ manuals.
  • Operates Ground Support Equipment.
  • Participates in FOD walks.
  • Knowledge and experience in technical, safety, and environmental issues involving Weapons maintenance.
  • Willing to travel on occasion.
