About The Position

The Wealth Strategist – Cross Border opportunity aims to enhance PCG's holistic cross-border planning, focusing on financial planning as a core client experience element, and wealth and business transfer planning for US-based clients. This role primarily involves working with Canadian Financial Advisors (FAs) to maximize their effectiveness in acquiring and retaining high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients. The Wealth Strategist will leverage the RBC planning process to offer expert product knowledge and consultation, acting as the primary external sales resource for segment-specific specialty products and services. Collaboration with Canadian and RBC US field leadership, service, and support teams within Private Client Group is essential to ensure a unified support effort and an exceptional client experience. The role serves as a key resource for Canadian Financial Advisors dealing with Canadian high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients residing in the US. The focus is on complex financial, estate, gift, and charitable planning, philanthropic consulting, personal trust planning, international trust solutions, business succession planning, multi-generational planning, and strategies for concentrated equity positions and employee stock options. Consulting services may include conference calls or in-person meetings with Canadian Financial Advisors, individual clients and their families, and the client's external legal and tax advisors. Additionally, the role involves acting as a subject matter expert by developing educational content and conducting client seminars and training sessions for RBC Wealth Management employees, media, and external centers of influence, such as attorneys and CPAs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field, advance degree preferred
  • 12+ years Financial Services industry experience with significant expertise in estate or planning products
  • Cross border planning and tax knowledge.
  • In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and securities industry licenses 7 and 66 (or 7, 63 and 65)
  • Experience with design and implementation of training programs
  • Knowledge of vendors and their products/programs
  • Strong inter-personal and analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate complex planning concepts in a comprehensive and practical manner.
  • Advanced presentation skills
  • Strong customer service focus

Responsibilities

  • Perform a thorough gathering and discovery process to gain insight into the client’s family, business circumstances, financial statement, existing legal documents.
  • Review the client’s current situation, taking into account their short and long-term goals, and strategically develop strategies and solutions for the client’s family, business, charitable giving including use of Donor Advised Funds, international trust via RBC global trust platform and wealth and legacy plans and generate proposals focusing on these planning and wealth transfer goals and objectives, including tax observations.
  • Develops and promotes sales ideas and effective business practices, works with advisors to identify opportunities and capture money in motion.
  • Delivers the RBC planning client experience to clients with significant wealth and complex needs.
  • Consults with advisors on complex planning cases, provides estate, insurance and business succession planning and trust reviews.
  • Conducts “point of sale” presentations with advisors to help drive holistic wealth planning and solutions, coordinates other support as needed.
  • Contributes and develops original thought leadership content that will be utilized by clients, media, Financial Advisors and the firm to provide insights and a view on specific themes and planning concepts.
  • Conducts targeted training and development programs focused on cross border planning.
  • Contributes content and presents on various topics integral to training and development deliverables for the wealth planning team and the client strategies team.
  • Assists and trains both Canadian and US based FAs on key cross border related financial planning concepts and product solutions to gather assets of high-net-worth and ultra-high-net worth clients.
  • Develops and follows a regular communication plan to support the US and Canadian based team.
  • Manages assigned territory and tracks and reports weekly travel, business activities and CRM requirements.
