About The Position

Under the supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor, this role strips, waxes, and buffs floors and corridors, and performs a variety of housekeeping duties to maintain the hospital in an orderly and sanitary condition. The position supports and adheres to the hospital’s mission, vision, and value statement by performing all work consistently adhering to patient, staff, and visitor’s safety, patient confidentiality, and the Hospital’s standard of customer service. This is a full-time night position, 11:30 pm to 7:30 am, located at NewYork-Presbyterian / Lower Manhattan Hospital. This role has the potential to work weekends and holidays.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to read, comprehend and follow instructions
  • Capable of using equipment and tools necessary for performance of duty
  • Interacts positively with patients, staff and visitors
  • Follows established procedure

Responsibilities

  • Strips, waxes, scrubs, re-coats, restores floors and maintains floor care program using various floor machines.
  • Ensures proper use of wet floor signs.
  • Cleans and maintains all areas of the hospital, including restrooms, walls, furniture, surrounding ledges, windows, ceilings, vents, and all physical surfaces requiring cleaning.
  • Performs high dusting/low dusting all horizontal and vertical surfaces with required equipment, including assistance of ladders and scaffolds.
  • Transports and disposes of refuse, both infectious and non-infectious, in accordance with city/state codes.
  • Vacuums, spot cleans, extracts, and shampoos carpeting as assigned.
  • Organizes, cleans, and maintains the housekeeping closet.
  • Keeps the slop sink area clean.
  • Stores equipment in appropriate areas before breaks.
  • Cleans all equipment at the end of each shift before storage.
  • Cleans and maintains entire elevators.
  • Prepares, cleans, sets up, breaks down, and stores meeting rooms (on-site and off-site).
  • Removes beds, equipment, and furnishings from floors, transports them to specific areas as requested, changes mattresses, and assembles beds.
  • Follows prescribed methods when preparing discharge rooms, including isolation cleaning.
  • Completes discharge cleaning, removes linen, and makes beds.
  • Receives, packs, and distributes linen hospital-wide.
  • Transports, packs, weighs, and prepares soiled linen for pick-up.
  • Removes and replaces linen, and makes beds in on-call doctor’s rooms.
  • Removes debris in outside areas, maintains the exterior of the building using brooms, power washers, hoses, and blowers; removes snow and ice.
