About The Position

A Watershed Ranger II enforces criminal, civil and natural resource protocols, laws, rules and regulations and conducts natural resource conservation activities at and in the vicinity of the Baltimore City watersheds. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work an assigned shift to provide 24-hour 7-day a week coverage subject to call-back as required for emergencies. Work is primarily performed out-of-doors where there may be exposure to inclement weather, extremes of temperature and irate persons. Work requires regular moderate physical activity in walking and standing and occasional strenuous physical exertion when apprehending or arresting persons engaged in illegal activity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in park administration, park management, natural, environmental or biological sciences or a related field.
  • Two years of natural resources conservation activities or law enforcement experience.
  • Valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit.
  • Eligibility for Certification as a Police Officer as mandated by the Maryland Police Training Commission in accordance with the COMAR (Code of Maryland Regulations).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must successfully pass a physical examination following the offer of employment.
  • Must successfully pass a fingerprint and background investigation conducted by the Baltimore City Police Department.
  • Must successfully pass an approved Entrance-Level Training for Police Officers.
  • Must successfully pass an approved Entrance-Level Firearms Training Course under COMAR.
  • Must successfully pass approved Field Training.
  • Must obtain Commission as a Special Police Officer by the State of Maryland within six months of hire.
  • Must obtain Certification as a Police Officer as mandated by the Maryland Police Training Commission in accordance with COMAR (Code of Maryland Regulations) and a handgun permit within one year of hire.
  • Must maintain Special Police Commission, Certification as a Police Officer and handgun permit as a condition of employment.
  • Employees who leave this position within three years of hire must reimburse the City of Baltimore for any training given or uniforms and equipment issued during term of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience in park administration, park management, natural, environmental or biological sciences or in enforcing rules and regulations in a park environment may substitute for each year of the university requirement.
