About The Position

This is an entry level position to lifeguarding at Westside. This position is responsible for supervision and safety in the Aquatic Park by providing customer service and delivering high quality aquatic programs. Westside Recreation Centre is a world-class facility based on a lifestyle and wellness concept. Since 2000, we have been providing families with high quality and accessible recreation facilities, programs and services.

  • Current Alberta Approved First Aid training agency - CSA Standard Z1210-17 Intermediate First Aid
  • Current Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross
  • Current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Certification

Responsibilities

  • Instructs swimming/aquatic programs to all organizational standards.
  • Follows the direction of the Head Guard and is capable of providing first aid treatment when necessary.
  • Provides education about policies/procedures related to bather health & safety.
  • Uses various forms of communication: whistles, hand signals, body language, written, phone, radio, etc.
  • Performs thorough scanning and supervision in assigned waterpark attendant positions.
  • Works as a team to handle any public relation & education to prevent incidents.
  • Responds quickly and as trained when required.
  • Recognizes and safely adjusts pool space being used while instructing.
  • Follows all class management and safety policies/procedures.
  • Keeps all participants in view/active/wet during instruction.
  • Ensures a clean and safe environment for staff and patrons.
  • Ensures equipment is in good working order & reports concerns.
  • Follows safe work practices/procedures.
  • Completes items on maintenance checklists.
  • Attends mandatory skills training, in-services, & meetings.
  • Completes Incident Report Forms as required.
  • Completes all related instructor administrative duties including; attendance, worksheets, waivers, lesson planning, report cards.
  • Performs First Aid as required.
  • Maintains cleanliness and safety of the Aquatic Park.
  • Ensures safety of staff and patrons in Aquatic Park.
  • Documents and reports to supervisor any incidents that occur during shift.
  • Actively involved with workplace inspection and hazard assessments.
