About The Position

YMCA Camp Kanannaq is seeking an individual to fill the role of Waterfront Coordinator. Reporting directly to the Director of Camping and Outdoor Education, the Waterfront Coordinator is a key team member at the YMCA BC. This person will be responsible for assisting the Director in the leadership and guidance of camp teams, programs and services to include Outdoor Education, Camp Kanannaq Day Camp Programs according to YMCA and BC Camps Association guidelines and policies. This position will coordinate the YMCA BC Camp Services and Programs; including overseeing all operations, standards, programs and services in regards to Outdoor Education, Waterfront Programs, and Youth Programs. The Waterfront Coordinator will provide leadership to the development and delivery of high-quality, educational programming and camping, and will build and maintain relationships with our families and delivery partners. This person is responsible for assisting in all operations including training and managing staff; overseeing aspects of the budget; programming; maintaining facilities, equipment and programs; assuring YMCA standards and procedures are taking place to follow YMCA policies and procedures and to integrate the YMCA Core Values of Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility to provide high quality programs.

Requirements

  • 3+ years combined of post-secondary education in a relevant field (such as education, outdoor recreation, biology) and experience in camps, youth recreation, and/or outdoor education
  • Minimum of Standard First Aid and CPR-C
  • Have a current National Lifeguard certification and/or Class 2 Driver’s License or equivalent; if not, must be willing and able to obtain at least one of these certifications
  • Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable sector search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.

  • Demonstrated supervisory and YMCA Camps & Outdoor Education experience is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all Waterfront programming and Youth Programs activities and ensure quality of all programs
  • Work directly with the Coordinator, Camp Programs to deliver Outdoor Education and Day Camp Programs
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to the Waterfront team and Youth programs team
  • Assume responsibility for on-site operation, with the help of Coordinator, Camp Programs
  • Supervise camper drop-off and pick-up, communicate with camper families
  • Demonstrate by example and communicate effectively to enforce safety regulations to all ages and skill levels and to assist campers or staff when applicable
  • Ensure all YMCA Child Protection and YMCA Camp Kanannaq Policies, Lifesaving Standards and BC Camps Accreditation Standards are implemented and followed
