About The Position

Inspects, repairs, and maintains the equipment and facilities associated with water or wastewater system. Essential Functions Perform routine maintenance and inspect stationary equipment such as: Water Treatment and Production-pumps, valves, compressors, and fittings. Wastewater Treatment - wastewater pumps, belt filter presses, polymer system, chlorine distribution equipment, gas digesters, belt conveyence, blowers, equipment; including pumps, valves, compressor, and fittings; Clean and maintain appearances of buildings, structures, and equipment.; Inspect, repair, and replace chlorinators and ammoniators (Water Treatment) as needed; Perform general welding, electrical, and pipeline work; Keep records and prepare reports; Lead, train, and evaluate assistants; Mechanic on 'Call Duty' on a fixed or rotating schedule; Estimate supplies, materials, and maintenance requirements for outside purchases or contract work. Purchase supplies and other work-related items as approved with City credit card; Performs related duties as directed.

Requirements

  • Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional three to five years experience operating and repairing large stationary equipment; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:
  • Valid Current Driver's License
  • Physical Exam Required
  • Requires employee to be clean-shaven.
  • Critical Infrastructure: This position has been determined to have close contact with, or control of Critical Infrastructure components.
  • This position is subject to extensive background checks and random drug screening.
  • Water Treatment Plant: NPPA - Noncommercial Political; TCEQ Class C Surface Water License TCEQ Class D Surface Water License
  • Ability to obtain Noncommercial Political Pesticide Applicator License issued by the Texas Department of Agriculture within 6 months of hire.
  • Water Treatment Plant: Three to five years experience operating and repairing pumps and valves of four, six, eight, twelve, eighteen, and twenty four inches.
  • Also operating and repairing blowers, chemical feed pumps, and various actuators.
  • Knowledge of: Operating and maintenance practices of the related control and recording devices.
  • Knowledge of: Computerized water or wastewater maintenance systems that applies to specific facility.
  • Ability to: Diagnose failures in specialized water system control devices.
  • Ability to: Work independently.
  • Ability to: Maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to: Work in confined spaces using proper safety equipment, including self contained breathing equipment.
  • Ability to: Communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to: Estimate material and supply needs.
  • Ability to: Use troubleshooting methods.
  • Ability to: Read blueprints and plans.
  • Ability to: Operate forklift and front-end loader (Waste Water Treatment Plant only).
  • Frequently lift and carry and lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Frequently stand and walk during the shift.
  • Push and pull objects in order to remove pump covers.
  • Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees.
  • Place arms above, at or below shoulder height.
  • Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
