About The Position

Assists in repair, installation, and preventive maintenance of heavy industrial equipment such as large pumps, valves, and compressors. This role involves disassembling, cleaning, replacing parts, and assembling heavy industrial equipment typically found in waterworks systems including pumps, valves, motors, and compressors. The position also includes performing preventive maintenance, inspecting equipment for proper operation or signs of malfunction, and using electronic test equipment to collect machine data such as vibration and shaft alignment. The assistant will obtain parts and supplies, assist mechanics in equipment installation and repair, aid in documenting work orders, contacting vendors, and checking pumps for leaks.

Requirements

• Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent
• One year experience in maintenance and/or repair of heavy stationary equipment
• Valid Current Driver's License
• Requires employee to be clean-shaven
• Subject to extensive background checks and random drug screening
• Knowledge of principles and methods of mechanical repair
• Ability to use a variety of power, pneumatic, and hand tools
• Ability to properly use safety equipment such as gas detectors and breathing apparatus
• Ability to drive a forklift
• Ability to handle tools, repair parts, etc.
• Ability to perform hard physical labor around sewage

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and inspect equipment for proper operation or signs of malfunction
• Use electronic test equipment to collect machine data such as vibration and shaft alignment
• Obtain parts and supplies as necessary to complete repairs
• Assist mechanic in installation of new equipment or repair of existing equipment
• Assist in documentation of work orders and contacting vendors
• Check pumps periodically for leaks
• Perform related duties as directed
