Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program
  • 8 or 10+ years’ experience in specialized discipline
  • Proficient in discipline specific design software
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Written and communication skills
  • Presentation skills

  • Experience working with local clients at the county and state level
  • Professional Engineer License

Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering design for tasks or sub-tasks in a specialized discipline using basic project management and advanced general engineering principles.
  • Coordinate with design and other project engineers to ensure efficient completion of project goals on schedule, within budget, and to high quality standards.
  • Support the overall Project Manager by executing project management responsibilities for the respective discipline, including developing hours estimates and scope.
  • Provide design status updates to the Project Manager.
  • Track budgets for discipline task(s).
  • Oversee sub-tasks within their respective discipline for a project.
  • Execute quality control and quality assurance plans as provided by the PMP for the project.
  • Delegate project tasks to project team members.
  • Coach and mentor design staff through the design process.
  • Provide consultative services to clients, including attending client meetings, providing timely updates, and offering appropriate solutions.
  • Collaborate with and manage project sub-consultants and other internal disciplines.
  • Develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals.
  • Perform alternative studies, evaluate impacts, and develop/finalize reports for clients.
  • Plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of engineering work for a part of a major project or a total project of moderate scope.
  • Design projects using advanced discipline knowledge, client specifications, and guidelines with design software and drawing tools.
  • Perform or check design computations.
  • Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications, and estimates.
  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure alignment and project completion by the defined deadline and established quality.
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance/support to Design Engineers within the department (if managing others).
  • Lead and manage team members by providing leadership and continuous performance management (setting expectations, goals, feedback, 1:1 meetings, coaching) that supports team growth and development.
