About The Position

This year-round position plays a critical role in maintaining the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of our water and wastewater systems while supporting other maintenance and operational needs across the ski area. This position reports directly to the Utilities and Base Area Operations Manager and Daily Operations Manager and works within the wastewater operational team and independently on tasks to monitor water and wastewater systems, perform maintenance, identify operational concerns, and communicate issues or deficiencies to management. This role also assists the broader ski area maintenance team as needed based on operational priorities and seasonal demands. We’re looking for someone who’s a critical thinker, who enjoys finding ways to improve systems and isn’t afraid to jump in wherever needed. The ideal candidate is adaptable, enjoys variety in their workday, and is comfortable working in a dynamic mountain environment where seasonal demands, weather, priorities, and schedules change frequently.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of water and wastewater treatment systems and willingness to learn on the job.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to accommodate and wear respirators.
  • Ability to access and work in confined spaces, trenches, etc.
  • Actively participate in fostering a positive safety culture through words and actions.
  • Experience with pumps, plumbing, and general facility maintenance.
  • Comfortable working at heights, on uneven terrain, and in varying weather conditions
  • Work independently and collaboratively, with respectful interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate tasks and system adjustments efficiently and positively to a team
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Willingness to learn and provide feedback for improvements
  • Follow safety guidelines as described in the Accident Prevention Plan and as trained.
  • Report safety concerns directly to the Utilities Manager, Director of Mountain Operations, and General Manager as trained.
  • Must be 21 or older
  • Must successfully complete and pass both an annual Motor Vehicle Records check and background check.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Ability to obtain Washington State Water Treatment Plant Operator 1 OIT - (WTPO 1 OIT) certification, with completion of OIT certification by October 1 as a condition of employment.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.
  • Ability to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License required, with training costs paid by the employer.
  • Ability to work outside in inclement winter weather for extended periods
  • Bending, twisting, lifting and moving items throughout the day.
  • Ability to frequently lift and move 75lbs. or more depending on task).
  • Standing and or sitting for long periods.
  • Climbing and descending stairs.

Nice To Haves

  • Washington State Water Distribution Manager 1 - WDM 1 (or higher).
  • Washington State Group 1 Wastewater Operator Certification (or higher).
  • Washington State Cross-Connection Control Specialist - CCS.
  • Class B commercial driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must not have any restrictions limiting driving a manual or air brakes, and have or be able to get a tanker endorsement within 30 days of hiring.
  • A class A license would be preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain wastewater treatment plant to meet regulatory and operational standards. The treatment plant is a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) using chlorination, which doses out to a drip tube drain field.
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain two on-site septic (OSS) systems to meet regulatory and operational standards. One of the two uses the nibbler system.
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain a Group A ground water system to meet regulatory and operational standards. This system operates with one well field consisting of two 350’ wells.
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain a Group A surface water system to meet regulatory and operational standards. This system operates two slow sand filters with chlorination.
  • Conduct routine samples, inspections, testing, and documentation for compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Perform installation, repairs and preventative maintenance on treatment systems, drain fields, pumps, valves, supply lines and related infrastructure.
  • Maintain accurate logs and records, communicating effectively with supervisors and regulatory agencies when needed.
  • Respond to operational needs, emergencies, and on-call situations, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. Must be available to work during all scheduled ski season holiday time frames.
  • Support other departments during high-demand periods, demonstrating flexibility and a team-first mindset.
  • Operate and maintain our septage hauling truck meeting all regulatory and operational standards. Septage hauling takes place on and off site in both winter and summer months taking care of our RV restroom trailers, concrete restrooms, sludge hauling and other hauling duties in a newer Peterbilt.
  • Assist with snow-season operations, including facility upkeep, snow removal, and other ski area maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Operate and maintain commercial motor vehicles while meeting all regulatory and operational standards. Some duties include, but not limited to operating dump trucks and trailering equipment.
