About The Position

The Water and Wastewater Operator Level I is responsible for performing tasks related to the installation, operation and repairs of the water distribution, water treatment, and wastewater collection systems.

Requirements

  • EOCP Water Distribution Operator’s Certificate (Level 1)
  • EOCP Waste Water Collection Operator’s Certificate (Level 1)
  • Minimum Grade XII or an equivalent.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and an annual driver’s abstract in excellent standing which is to be submitted annually
  • Knowledge of computer basics (Word and Excel).
  • Training in computerized database management, spreadsheets, and word processing.
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems.
  • Minimum First-aid training (Level 1) St. John Ambulance or alternate.
  • Knowledge of plan reading, pipe locating, and hydrant maintenance
  • Criminal Record Check with results acceptable to WFN
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains all inventories and records for the water and sewer utility.
  • Assists with scheduled maintenance of all waterworks, storm drainage, and sewage collection system components.
  • Assists with sanitary sewer service installations.
  • Participates in the water-quality monitoring program for both the WFN waterworks systems.
  • Collects samples and performs routine field analysis.
  • Performs basic water quality tests using field test kits.
  • Changes chlorine tonners under supervision.
  • Complies with all applicable safety regulations and procedures under Work Safe BC.
  • Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels and observes variations in operating conditions.
  • Builds strong working relationships with Development Services department, and other water and sewer utilities within the area.
  • Assists in responding to public complaints or concerns in all aspects of the waterworks and wastewater collection systems.
  • Monitors and assists in excavation and backfilling of material prior to installation or for the repair of any described.
  • Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control.
  • Maintains shift logs and record meter and gauge readings.
  • Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties
  • Operates power generating equipment.
  • Carries out other operator duties as may be required or assigned by supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation policies, standards and procedures.
  • Being part of the rotating on-call schedule is required for this position which includes responding to after hour calls within a 20 minute response time and takes corrective action as required.
