About The Position

The Water/Wastewater Operator is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and supervision of water distribution and water treatment. The position includes operating and maintaining distribution equipment and pump stations, managing chemical feed systems, collecting and testing samples, maintaining records, and ensuring work complies with applicable deadlines and Federal and State safety regulations. It also includes troubleshooting equipment, preventive maintenance and minor repairs, facility and grounds upkeep, and other related duties as directed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• North Carolina certification as a Wastewater Operator (Grade II or higher) and/or Water Operator (Grade B Surface Water).
• Valid driver's license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Records.
• Experience within a water treatment environment.
• Ability to work independently.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to read, write, compile, and analyze data and reports daily.
• Ability to monitor control panels, gauges, and meters to ensure proper plant operation.
• Must be available to work weekends, overtime, and on-call as needed.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain the water distribution system, including servicing pumps, motors, valves, generators, and other equipment.
• Handle chemical feed systems, including chemical dosing and inventory management.
• Maintain pump stations.
• Collect and prepare samples and perform laboratory testing.
• Maintain records, perform data entry, and provide detailed reporting.
• Complete work assignments within specified deadlines and in compliance with Federal and State safety regulations and procedures.
• Analyze and evaluate pump equipment, troubleshoot malfunctions, and monitor water operations.
• Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs of equipment and infrastructure.
• Maintain facility grounds, including cleaning equipment and tanks.
• Perform general landscape maintenance, including mowing, trimming, cleanup, and pruning.
• Perform other related duties as directed.
