About The Position

The water/wastewater treatment operator plays a key role in ensuring our Class III water and Class IV wastewater treatment plants operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards. This position offers the opportunity to gain direct responsible charge experience in both water and wastewater operations, as well as exposure to our cogeneration plant, which utilizes methane gas from our solid waste facility.

Requirements

  • Self‑motivated, organized, and safety‑conscious with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with solid analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Basic knowledge of mathematics, chemistry, biology, and computer systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to Aquatera’s values and principles and continuous improvement.
  • Experience in water/wastewater treatment.
  • Completion of a Water and Wastewater Technician Program from a recognized post-secondary institution and meet the requirements to write Alberta’s Water and Wastewater Provincial Level 1 Certification Exam
  • High school diploma or recognized equivalent.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada without limitations.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and satisfactory driver’s abstract.
  • Pass 50 lb. fitness test.
  • Pass comprehensive drug and alcohol test.

  • Level 1 Water and Wastewater certification is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Follow Aquatera’s health and safety policy and procedures at all times.
  • Ensure water and wastewater meet Government of Alberta regulatory standards.
  • Monitor water and wastewater progress through various treatment processes.
  • Participate in shift work, working alone, and stand‑by scheduling.
  • Operate and monitor Level III water treatment plant, Level IV BNR wastewater treatment plant, and cogeneration systems.
  • Perform facility operations and maintenance tasks, including process monitoring, optimization, chlorine tonner changes, chemical mixing, and off‑loading.
  • Conduct laboratory sampling, field analysis, and related quality control tasks.
  • Complete accurate reporting and detailed record keeping.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
