About The Position
An intern supports the assigned design department by assisting with a variety of tasks, including special project assignments and active participation in project design and documentation, to gain practical experience and support their educational development. Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.
Requirements
- Must be currently pursuing a degree in a relevant field (e.g., Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline).
- Strong desire to learn and gain practical experience in water/wastewater design.
- Ability to assist with basic design tasks, research, and studies.
- Willingness to help prepare drawings and documents.
- Ability to support construction phase activities, including site visits.
- Understanding of quality control procedures is a plus.
- Eagerness to learn and apply company standards.
- Good communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to follow guidance and direction.
- Eligible for TN visa classification is a plus.
Nice To Haves
- Previous internship experience in an engineering or design firm.
- Familiarity with relevant design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit).
Responsibilities
- Assist senior or lead (architects, engineers, interior designers, project managers) with basic design tasks, including research, simple studies, and layout support
- Help prepare drawings and documents for programming, schematic design, modeling, graphics, design development, and construction phases
- Support the creation of presentation and marketing materials
- Assist with construction phase activities, including participating in site visits, supporting RFI responses, reviewing shop drawings, and helping update record drawings
- Follow established quality control procedures and ask questions as needed
- Learn and apply department and company standards and best practices
- Develop basic design, analysis, and technical skills through hands-on experience
- Participate in team meetings and collaborate with team members
- Receive guidance and direction from supervisors and team leaders
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, interior designers, and other multidisciplinary team members
- Perform other related duties as assigned
