About The Position

Under the guidance of the Foreperson, you’ll perform a variety of manual and equipment operating duties essential to our construction program. You’ll play a key part in upgrading aging infrastructure, enhancing system capacity, and implementing technologies to ensure efficient and sustainable water management.

Requirements

  • Minimum grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Minimum acceptable MECP certification is Wastewater Collection OIT and a Water Distribution Class 1 OR Wastewater Collection Level 1 and a Water Distribution OIT preference for progressive advancement to the certification of the subsystem class level.
  • Ability to operate and maintain a variety of manual and power equipment.
  • Possess AZ Driver’s License in good standing.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Capable of accurately completing work forms and reports.
  • Must have a working knowledge of computers.
  • Must have a working knowledge of applicable regulation as it applies to compliance. (ex: Canadian Environmental Protection Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, etc.)
  • Must successfully complete regulatory training. (ex: Preventing Water Borne Illness, Confined Space Training, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Trenching and Shoring, etc.)
  • Physically able to perform requirements of the job.
  • Minimum 1 year of job-related experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference for progressive advancement to the certification of the subsystem class level.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of manual, hydraulic and pneumatic powered equipment.
  • Perform water quality and system tests (ex: chlorine residual, pH, pressure and flow tests) and take corrective action (ex: notify supervisor and flush) as directed.
  • Perform hand excavation, backfilling and restoration works.
  • Perform concrete work, brickwork, and pipe laying.
  • Clean sewer mains, laterals and manholes of debris and sediment.
  • Maintain, operate, and inspect water distribution and wastewater collection system assets.
  • Assist in construction related activities and watermain tapping service.
  • Assist in sewer main rodding service and CCTV inspection service.
  • Assist in major hydrant repair and overhaul service.
  • Perform routine maintenance, inspection and minor repairs to water and wastewater infrastructure and assists in major construction repairs.
  • Ensure all work performed in compliance with relevant standards, legislation and regulations.
  • Complete forms, records and reports according to approved procedures and methods (i.e. work order, inspection form, chain of custody form, etc.).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned including duties of lower rated classifications where qualified.
