About The Position

The purpose of this position is to accurately locate water and sewer lines as requested in advance of construction activities. Inspect and enforce rules and ordinances related to franchise utilities, Right-of-Way construction, and permits.

Requirements

• Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional one year of college education or specialized advanced training in construction methods or procedures.
• An additional two years of experience dealing with construction methods or procedures.
• Knowledge of the fundamental principles of construction methods and engineering plans.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering, construction, inspection, and testing.
• Knowledge of Public Works processes and procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, surveyors' notes, blueprints, and maps.
• Ability to communicate effectively with others.
• Ability to operate a computer.
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with internal and external customers and the general public.
• Ability to deal effectively with others in a courteous manner.
• Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
• Ability to operate a variety of office equipment.
• Ability to accurately relay information from maps and blueprints to citizens, home builders, and general contractors.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to maintain detailed records on pipe specifications, including location, size, depth, and type of material.

Responsibilities

• Inspect construction operations, including ditch compaction and roadway repairs.
• Respond to requests from citizens, home builders, and general contractors for the location of water or sewer lines in advance of construction activities.
• Locate water and sewer lines using a variety of equipment.
• Mark the location of lines to prevent damage resulting from construction.
• Assist customer service employees in locating manholes, meters, and service lines.
• Enforce City of Lubbock Ordinance Chapter 36.09 and City of Lubbock Excavation Manual, issue ordinance violation tickets as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
