About The Position

Aurora Water is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the drinking water, sanitary sewer and storm drainage systems, treatment of drinking water and non-potable reclaimed wastewater for irrigation, billing and collection, public outreach and water conservation, acquisition and development of future water rights, major capital projects programs, and quality control for regulatory compliance and public health. The Water Utility Lead serves as a lead worker over an assigned group of employees and performs complex skilled work duties related to the operation, maintenance and repair of water Transmission and Distribution systems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Three years progressively responsible experience maintenance, operation, and repair with water distribution systems.
  • Thorough knowledge and techniques of water distribution system operation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Thorough knowledge of hazards, practices, procedures, equipment and tool operation, systems and processes common to water operations and common safety practices and procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of blueprints, grade and elevation notations
  • Thorough knowledge of the City of Aurora
  • Technical knowledge of the water utility systems with expertise on water system valve operations, hydraulics, and pressure zones
  • Thorough knowledge of excavation and trenching, traffic control, confined space entry and other job safety operations
  • Knowledge of the data management system
  • Skilled in the safe operation of PRVs, valves, fire hydrants, ARVs, potable, reuse or raw water delivery systems
  • Skilled in the safe use of hand tools, power tools and equipment operation
  • Skilled in training and monitoring of assigned personnel
  • Skilled to recognize hazards, find resolution, understanding specifications and attention to detail
  • Ability to understand complex instructions, specifications and situations relative to job assignments
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, management and citizens
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with other sections and departments
  • Effective use of computers and electronic devices
  • Work with Supervisor to provide documentation and feedback related to employees and work assignments
  • Organize and coordinate daily work activities working with other Water Utility Leads
  • Ability to problem solve with resolution on work sites
  • Class B CDL with Tanker Endorsement
  • Colorado Water Distribution 2 or Wastewater Collection 2

Responsibilities

  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs on water infrastructure
  • Assigns, oversees, and reviews work and work crews
  • Operates and maintains specialized equipment and vehicles
  • Coordinates daily work activities working with peers
  • Troubleshooting, identifying and repairing water system concerns
  • Providing customer service during routine and emergency situations
  • Provides, prepares, maintains maintenance records and reports on work activities and equipment
  • Assists in the training of assigned personnel
  • Responds to water, wastewater, and stormwater emergencies
  • Performs snow removal activities
  • Performs stand-by duties
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
