About The Position

Graphic Packaging International produces paper-based packaging for many well-known brands. This specific role is responsible for operating and maintaining the Texarkana Water Utilities Public Water System (PWS) at the GPI-Texarkana Mill. The PWS supplies a significant amount of treated water daily for mill operations and potable water for the mill and local communities. Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent
A valid Class C or Class B Surface Water Treatment Plant Operator’s license OR A valid Class C Surface Water Treatment Plant Operator’s license within two years of hire
Knowledge of mill safety policies and procedures
Proficient in basic computer use
Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, critical for sharing information with supervisor and between shifts
Strong attention to detail
Must pass drug test and background check
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
Work rotating shift schedule.
Work in adverse environmental conditions.

Responsibilities

Uses standard work practices and standard operating procedures to perform daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual activities required to maintain the PWS in compliance with all regulations.
Monitors treatment process in water plant control room and makes necessary adjustments as indicated by current conditions; makes process control decisions.
Trend raw water intake, clarifiers, sand filters, Clearwell, granulated activated carbon filters, and all associated equipment including turbidimeters, pumps, and filters used for water treatment.
Collects samples and completes chemical tests/analysis including residual chlorine, pH, temperature, alum dosage, color, clarifier flocculant and other testing required to monitor water treatment process; calculates and adjusts chemical dosages.
Inspects valves, pumps, gauges, and other equipment on a scheduled basis.
Prepares daily logs, inspection sheets, and examines and interprets trend charts; prepares daily reports of analysis and test results for mill and regulatory agencies; maintains records; enters data into computer. Analyze results to identify any issues and adjust treatment process.
Performs housekeeping of equipment, grounds, and work areas.
May be called in after hours to respond to emergencies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Must be able to lift to 40 lbs.
Ensure compliance with state and federal water quality regulations and safety standards.
Communicate with Supervision, other technicians, and maintenance regarding daily water quality issues/ treatment.
