About The Position

The Water Treatment Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of water treatment facilities within the United States. This position is responsible for overseeing the treatment processes that provide clean, potable water to communities while complying with all federal, state, and local regulations. The supervisor leads a team of operators and technicians, coordinating daily activities to maintain optimal system performance and promptly address any operational issues. They also manage maintenance schedules, monitor water quality data, and implement improvements to enhance treatment efficiency and safety. Ultimately, this role ensures the delivery of high-quality water that meets health standards and supports public well-being.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree or higher in environmental science, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Valid Water Treatment Operator Certification as required by the state of employment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in water treatment plant operations, including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of water treatment processes, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance standards (e.g., EPA, state regulations).
  • Proficiency in using water quality monitoring instruments and plant control systems.
  • Leadership and communication skills are essential for effectively managing and motivating a diverse team, ensuring clear understanding of operational goals and safety procedures.
  • Problem-solving abilities are critical when addressing unexpected system issues or regulatory challenges, requiring quick and informed decision-making.
  • Organizational skills support the management of maintenance schedules, documentation, and compliance reporting, ensuring smooth plant operations.
  • Proficiency with digital control systems and monitoring software enables the supervisor to optimize plant performance and implement technological improvements.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with advanced water treatment technologies such as membrane filtration or chemical dosing systems.
  • Certification in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards or equivalent safety training.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and SCADA systems.
  • Demonstrated project management experience in water treatment or environmental services.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily operations of water treatment plants to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and operational goals.
  • Monitor water quality parameters and treatment processes, making adjustments as necessary to maintain optimal performance.
  • Lead, train, and evaluate a team of water treatment operators and technicians, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

  • Prepare and maintain detailed operational reports, documentation, and regulatory compliance records.
  • Respond promptly to operational emergencies or system malfunctions, coordinating corrective actions to minimize impact.
  • Collaborate with regulatory agencies during inspections and audits, ensuring all requirements are met or exceeded.
  • Assist in budgeting, procurement, and resource allocation to support plant operations and capital projects.
