About The Position

This is skilled work operating and maintaining a water treatment facility. The operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of equipment used to purify the public drinking water supply in compliance with regulatory agency requirements. This technical position works independently under the general direction of the Assistant Utility Director.

Requirements

• High school graduation or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of formal education and work experience.
• At least a Class C Florida water plant operator’s license, or the ability to obtain the license within a reasonable amount of time.
• Knowledge of water operations.
• Knowledge of basic repair of pumps and various equipment.
• Ability to read meters and charts accurately.
• Ability to maintain reports accurately and legibly.
• Ability to troubleshoot minor problems.
• Ability to perform medium-duty manual labor and lift up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• A valid Florida Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL).
• Spanish-speaking ability.

Responsibilities

• Follow the regular maintenance schedule and complete minor repairs.
• Troubleshoot minor operational problems.
• Perform routine laboratory analyses to control the water treatment process.
• Maintain daily production and laboratory records.
• Perform minor facility maintenance, including painting, cleaning, washing down the facility, and grounds maintenance.
• Read water meters as required.
• Perform other work as required.
