About The Position

The City of Saint Paul Regional Water Services is hiring a Water Treatment Operator to perform responsible work operating a large-scale public drinking water facility. This role involves controlling the flow of water through various treatment processes, monitoring and adjusting chemical applications, tracking flow rates, performing chemical analyses, monitoring plant machinery for performance and minor repairs, and evaluating water treatment control parameters. Other related duties and responsibilities as required.

Requirements

Must obtain a Class D Water Operators Certificate from the Minnesota Department of Health within eighteen (18) months of appointment.
Two years of experience as a Maintenance Worker I or equivalent experience assisting in the operation, maintenance, and repair of buildings and equipment, pertaining to water treatment, water pumping, and lime recovery operations.
Completion of a post-secondary water or wastewater treatment program as specified by the department.
Two years of post-secondary education which must include courses in mathematics or chemistry.

Responsibilities

Control the flow of water into and throughout the treatment processes, from the incoming conduits through rapid mix, lime softening and flocculation, settling, re-carbonation, filtration and disinfection.
Monitor and adjust the appropriate application of treatment chemicals during the process.
Track and adjust flow rates as needed.
Perform appropriate chemical analyses and monitor the chlorine residual, turbidity, alkalinity, and temperature levels.
Monitor performance of plant machinery and make minor maintenance and emergency repairs.
Evaluate water treatment control parameters to track plant operations and make necessary adjustments.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
