About The Position

Reporting to the Supervisor - Water Treatment, the Water Treatment Operator Class I will be involved in all aspects of maintaining the municipal water treatment system including related substations, towers and pump stations. Must complete all regulatory training under Ontario Regulation 128/04 and be familiar with all Health and Safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent GED plus completion of 2 year Environmental Technician program
  • Must have Class I Water Treatment license
  • 12 months water treatment plant experience
  • Experience with the application of technical math, water sampling, lab techniques, reading and working with blueprints, working with maps
  • Valid Ontario G level driver’s license
  • Experience with computer applications in a Windows environment including MSOffice
  • Must obtain acceptable police clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Willing to obtain a Class II Water Treatment Certificate considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regularly scheduled and ad-hoc inspections of all controls, systems, related pumping stations, water towers, and other related equipment to ensure they are maintained and inspected in accordance with the Water license, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) and other governing legislation and according to approved standards and practices.
  • Monitor all facility processes through visual inspections, computerized SCADA systems or by taking visual readings from the process control centre and/or equipment in order to make adjustments to equipment and processes to ensure the efficient operation of the facilities.
  • Ensure that all sampling, analysis and tests are conducted in accordance with water license, MOECC and other government legislation and according to approved standards and practices
  • Maintain a facility log of equipment and process performance, abnormal conditions and occurrences, the corrective actions required, and the adjustments made in order to ensure compliance with the Certificate of Approval, Ministry of Environment and other governing legislation.
  • Clean working environment in accordance with the established procedures and health and safety regulations
  • Assist in inventory activities.
  • Perform routine checks, scheduled maintenance and keep accurate logs and records in accordance with established procedures
  • Equipment and instrument maintenance and repair or replacement as needed.
  • Interpret and read maps, blueprints and engineering drawings
  • Prepare and complete work orders according to established procedures and create detailed reports on repairs and maintenance or maintenance logs and in accordance with health and safety requirements
  • Report any incidents of noncompliance to the DWQMS.
  • Update requirements in DWQMS program
  • Report any near miss or injuries to Supervisor immediately.
  • Report any hazards to the Supervisor immediately.
  • Must participate in training as prescribed by the Corporation.
  • Must comply to the Drinking Water Quality Management System.
  • Adhere to the OHSA as well as the Municipality of Lakeshore’s Health and Safety Policies and Procedures including WHMIS.
  • Assist with various special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
