About The Position

DEFINITION OF WORK Operates light equipment as utilized in construction, maintenance, and repair activities; performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance of roads, rights-of-way, bridges, and storm drainage systems; performs related work as assigned. Works under the close supervision of the assigned supervisor.

Requirements

Considerable knowledge of equipment operating principles; working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to vehicular equipment operations; working knowledge of the methods, materials and tools used in road and bridge maintenance work.
Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to observe proper safety precautions.
Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and the public.
Ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions.
Ability to drive and operate a variety of equipment under varying conditions, excavation sites.
General understanding and able to use Rock maps.
Valve main on and off.
Basic knowledge of iPad and computer skills.
A high school Diploma or GED is required.
Some experience required involving the use of light to medium sized equipment, some of which must have been related to construction, repair and/or maintenance is referred.
Valid Tennessee Driver's License and clear driving record is required. A Class B CDL is required.
Must be minimum of 21 years of age.

Responsibilities

May operate bobcat, skid steer, backhoe, UTV/Gator, crew truck, tractor mowers, or other light vehicle in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, materials, and supplies.
May operate machinery as department needs require.
Works with and assists as part of a crew in digging ditches, repairing bridges, laying pipe, spreading asphalt and/or any other related work as necessary.
May be responsible for grounds maintenance’
Occasionally operates heavy equipment that does not require a CDL.
Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
Other duties as assigned, examples- making water taps, repairing leaks, leak detecting
May be required to work a stagger shift, depending on weather conditions if department needs require.
May be required to work “on-call” duty as assigned by Director of Utilities or another authorized Supervisor.
Controls traffic at work sites by flagging to guide traffic through work areas, as required or as assigned.
