About The Position

Connecticut Valley Hospital (CVH), under the umbrella of the State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is seeking a qualified individual to join our team as our Water Systems Superintendent (PCN 24424). This position will ensure water safety for our staff and patients at our hospital in Middletown. Requirements

  • Five (5) years of work experience in the operation and maintenance of a Class III Water Treatment Plant
  • Possession of a Class III Water Treatment Plant Operator license in accordance with the regulations of the Department of Public Health
  • Possession of a Class I Water Distribution System Operator license in accordance with the regulations of the Department of Public Health
  • Two (2) years of the General Experience must have included performing chemical and biochemical analyses of water.
  • Incumbents in this class are required to possess and retain the State of Connecticut, Class III Water Treatment Plant Operator license.
  • Incumbents in this class are required to posses and retain the State of Connecticut, Class I Water Distribution System Operator license.
  • Incumbents in this class are required by the appointing authority to possess and retain all appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certificates.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain specific education and/or experience to meet various certification requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising the Water Systems Assistant Superintendent, Water System Operators, Maintainers, and other plant staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Ensuring compliance with all water treatment regulations through a valid Class III Water Treatment Plant Operator License.
  • Overseeing water quality to guarantee it is free from bacteria, contaminants, and harmful chemicals for all hospital uses, including drinking, bathing, and dietary services.
  • Managing and maintaining plant equipment to ensure all systems are operating efficiently and reliably.
  • Providing staff with the tools, resources, and guidance needed to perform their work safely and effectively.
  • Upholding the highest standards of safety to protect hospital staff and patients through reliable, clean, and compliant water supply.
  • Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews work of staff.
  • Provides staff training and assistance.
  • Conducts performance evaluations.
  • Determines priorities and plans plant work.
  • Establishes and maintains plant procedures.
  • Develops or makes recommendations on development of policies and standards.
  • Acts as liaison with other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding plant policies and procedures.
  • Prepares reports and correspondence.
  • Supervises all standing operations of water treatment plant, water supply structures and water distribution system.
  • Directs maintenance of water treatment plant, water distribution system and reservoir intake structures.
  • Schedules, supervises and responsible for all chemical treatment tests performed in relation to assigned activities.
  • Oversees watershed and reservoirs.
  • Directs facility Cross Connection Control program.
  • Keeps detailed records of plant operations.
  • Responsible for safety and security at plant sites.
  • Reviews plans for water utility system expansions or repairs.
  • Inspects utility system expansions or repairs.
  • Inspects utility maps and updates drawings.
  • Initiates purchases of commodities, tools, and equipment for water treatment operations.
  • Prepares water utility budgets.
  • Advises planning and engineering section of water utility requirements related to new facilities.
  • Performs related duties as required.
