About The Position

This role involves the installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of water meters, water and sewer lines, and related appurtenances. The worker will be responsible for locating underground utilities, assisting with new service installations, and clearing debris from various parts of the water and sewer systems. A key aspect of the job is inspecting and diagnosing system conditions, excavating around infrastructure, and performing necessary repairs. The position also requires adherence to strict safety procedures, including confined space entries, traffic control, and the use of personal protective equipment. Restoration of disturbed areas to their original condition is also a responsibility.

Requirements

Ability to perform confined space entries into permit required confined spaces
Ability to gather tools and equipment needed to complete work activities
Ability to pick up and transport materials, tools and supplies
Ability to saw cut driveways, sidewalks, curbs, and roads during repair
Ability to assist with the preparation and restoration of landscape, property, and other areas to preconstruction conditions
Ability to adhere to established safety procedures
Ability to monitor work environment and use of safety equipment
Ability to flag and direct traffic
Ability to place markers, signs and cones around project or work site
Ability to wear personal protective equipment

Responsibilities

Install, maintain, repair, and replace water meters, water and/or sewer lines and related appurtenances
Locates manholes, service connections, valves and other utilities
Assist with the installation/repair of new sewer taps and/or water service lines
Clear debris from manholes, water and sewer lines, sewer stream crossings, easements, valve boxes, etc.
Inspect and evaluate condition of systems; diagnoses leaks, blockages or other problems
Excavate around water and sewer infrastructure
Install appropriate repair fittings
Perform confined space entries into permit required confined spaces as needed
Gather tools and equipment needed to complete work activities; picks up and transports materials, tools and supplies
Perform related activities: saw cuts driveways, sidewalks, curbs, and roads during repair
Assist with the preparation and restoration of landscape, property, and other areas to preconstruction conditions that are disrupted as a result of repair work
Adhere to established safety procedures: monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees, other individuals, equipment, and property
Flag and directs traffic and places markers, signs and cones around project or work site to ensure safety of crew and the traveling public; and wears personal protective equipment
Performs other related duties as assigned
