About The Position

The Water & Sewer Laborer performs operation, maintenance, and construction of water well field, water treatment plant, water distribution, and wastewater collection and pumping systems. This role involves working both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions, maintaining equipment and work areas, and adhering to state and safety regulations. The position requires participation in the National Rural Water Association Apprenticeship program, obtaining specific licenses, and performing other related duties as needed. The company covers the cost of the apprenticeship program, with reimbursement required if the employee leaves within three years of program completion.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must be willing to consent to Hepatitis A and B vaccinations.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain within 90 days, a CDL B license.
  • Must be capable and willing to undergo required training such as confined space entry.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain within 1 year, a current CPR certification.
  • Must be able to obtain water distribution grade DSL license and water treatment WT3 license within 3 years of hire to maintain employment.
  • Must be able to read and communicate in a positive and respectful manner with co-workers, other departments, and the general public.
  • Must agree to enter the National Rural Water Association Apprenticeship program.
  • Must be able to push, pull and lift 50 lbs. unassisted and 100 lbs. assisted.
  • Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, bend, talk, hear, and work in confined space.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in operation, maintenance, and construction of water treatment plant, water distribution system, and wastewater collection and pumping systems.
  • Experience in operation of a backhoe, trencher, Vactor.
  • Training in confined space entry, first aid, and CPR.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and construct water well field, water treatment plant, water distribution, and wastewater collection and pumping systems.
  • Maintain equipment, tools, and work area in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
  • Perform duties in accordance with State Board of Health, IOSHA, and Utility Treatment and Distribution Standards, Safety Rules, Regulations and Practices.
  • Receive and perform verbal or written orders from supervisors.
  • Participate in the National Rural Water Association Apprenticeship program and obtain DSL and WT3 licenses.
  • Comply with Standards of Apprenticeship requirements of the National Rural Water Association.
  • Perform less skilled or other miscellaneous duties as required in the same or other utility departments.
  • Work in confined spaces.
  • Be on call after completion of the first year of the apprenticeship program.
