About The Position

The City of Brentwood is seeking a dependable, experienced, and team-oriented individual to join its Water Services Department as a Water Services Senior Maintenance Technician. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on outdoor work and wants to continue building a stable long-term career maintaining essential infrastructure. As a Water Services Senior Maintenance Technician, you will help maintain and repair the City’s water and sewer infrastructure, including pipelines, fittings and appurtenances, hydrants, pumps, motors, pump stations, grinder systems, and related equipment. You will also assist the Operations Superintendent with daily activities and provide leadership in the Superintendent’s absence. This position plays an important role in supporting reliable utility service for Brentwood residents and businesses. The Water Services Department is responsible for maintaining more than 225 miles of water lines, 13 pump stations, and nine finished-water storage tanks with a total capacity of 14 million gallons. Requirements

High school diploma or GED required
Three to five years of experience in the water and wastewater industry, preferably in a municipal or utility district environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
State of Tennessee-issued Class II water distribution or sewer collections license required; an approved out-of-state license may be accepted through reciprocity by the State of Tennessee
Cross Connections Control certification required
Valid Driver’s License required
Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required within one year of hire
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines, equipment and tools which includes a heavy motor vehicle, air compressor, metal detector, chain saw, hand tools, mechanic tools, lawn tools, janitorial tools, telephone, etc.
Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials.
Must be able to exert in excess of one hundred pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of fifty pounds of force frequently.
Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for very heavy work.
Requires the ability to compare and or judge the readily observable functional, technical, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.
Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving assignments and/or directions to co-workers or assistants.

Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, equipment, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities. Must have average levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.
Requires the ability to deal with people (i.e. staff, supervisors, general public, and officials) beyond giving and receiving instructions such as in interpreting departmental policies and procedures. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal stress when confronted with an emergency related to the job of Senior Maintenance Technician.
Requires the ability to talk and/or hear: (talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words). (Hearing - perceiving nature of sounds by ear).

Responsibilities

Performs inspecting and maintenance for pumps, motors and pump station and grinder system related equipment
Provides for monitor/control of water and sewer system operations via SCADA system
Performs daily maintenance, service and repairs for continued successful operations of water and sewer system operations, including installing water and sewer pipe, fittings and appurtenances; diagnosing system problems; installing/repairing/flushing fire hydrants; Sanitizing and sampling water lines after repairs
Collect system samples as needed and diagnose customer complaints to determine the appropriate resolution in accordance with federal, state, and local rules
Provides heavy manual labor functions for water/sewer and landscaping projects (e.g., digging holes, cleaning water lines, clearing sewer easements, washing trucks, cleaning shop/work areas, etc.) as directed
Operates/maintains equipment and machinery used in water and sewer maintenance (e.g., heavy motor vehicle, air compressor, chain saw, pipe saw, and other specialized machinery and equipment as required). Includes general mowing and landscaping as needed
Complete work orders, reports, and related documentation using the department’s electronic monitoring and documentation systems
Assists the Operations Superintendent with daily activities and provides leadership in the Superintendent’s absence
