About The Position

Our Roots Sharyland Water Supply Corporation was established in May of 1968 for the purpose of providing safe, affordable drinking water to the rural communities in and around Mission, McAllen, and Edinburg. We continue to strive in that endeavor. Sharyland Water Supply Corporation was created by a group of determined, community-minded men in the 1960's. With the help of Farmers Home Administration, a loan was acquired and construction began to build a rural water system. Initially, 700 property owners committed to take water service once construction was complete. Today, more than 50 years later, there are over 19,000 water connections on the system. The Corporation has approximately 100 square miles of Certified Area, 800 miles of water lines, three water plants, four elevated storage tanks and plans for additional water system improvements in the works. The Corporation has over 100 employees and a 7 person Board of Directors, all of whom are dedicated to the job required to ensure that Sharyland Water Supply Corporation continues to be the best it can be. The Role As a Water Maintenance Technician, you’ll protect service reliability by keeping the distribution system operating safely and efficiently across Alton and the surrounding area. This role exists to restore water service quickly, complete planned line work to standard, and support system improvements in the field.

Requirements

Comfort working around water/electric/telecom/sewer/gas utilities
Ability to safely operate and maintain related equipment and hand tools
Willingness to be on-call nights, weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or GED preferred

Responsibilities

Laying and repairing water mains
Installing valves, fittings, clamps, sleeves, service lines, and meters
Performing routine taps and tie-ins
Cutting, beveling, threading, and joining pipe
Flushing lines
Backfilling and restoring sites
Replacing angle stops and meter boxes
Locating underground utilities via hand-digging or vac methods
Operating tools and equipment up to and including dump/boom trucks and, as assigned, backhoe/boring/trenching equipment
Maintaining tools and materials
Completing emergency repairs after hours
Confirming work orders, loading materials, and aligning on priorities and safety notes
Coordinating around traffic control and existing utilities
Documenting what was found, what was completed, and what needs follow-up
Staging equipment, resetting inventory, and leaving the site clean
Responding after hours when the community needs water service restored
