About The Position

As a Principal and Office Practice Lead for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) in our Pittsburgh, PA office, you will have a unique opportunity to grow and lead a dynamic Water Resources Practice. You will oversee projects and collaborate with clients on ports, inland waterways, watershed management, hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analyses, FEMA permitting, dam safety, and other related projects for private and public sector clients. From concept through final design and permitting, you will apply your technical expertise in one or more of these areas to help clients solve complex water resources challenges and meet their project goals. In this role, you will develop and lead the office’s Water Resources Practice, cultivating client relationships, securing new work, and expanding the practice’s presence – an exciting opportunity to grow your career and make a tangible impact on the office and the region. You will benefit from the breadth of support provided by our established Water Resources Practices in other locations and work closely with our corporate Water Resources Practice Lead and the Pittsburgh Operations Lead to align office initiatives with company objectives and leverage firm-wide expertise, tools, and resources to ensure success. You will also lead and mentor engineers and play a key role in growing the team by identifying and hiring talented staff, fostering technical excellence, and building a collaborative, innovative group that thrives on challenging water resources projects. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering required
  • Professional Engineering license (P.E.) required
  • 15+ years of experience in water resources engineering
  • Technical expertise in one or more of the following: hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling, watershed management, FEMA permitting, dam safety, ports and navigable waterways, floodplain studies, and dam breach analyses.
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring, developing, and leading staff, with a passion for growing and leading teams
  • Proven track record of business development, client relationship management, and practice growth
  • Required experience in proposal preparation, project planning, execution, and financial management
  • Experience coordinating multi-disciplinary teams and engaging with clients, regulators, and internal stakeholders
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire trust and credibility
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory frameworks (local, state, and federal), including FEMA and USACE requirements
