About The Position

DOWL is seeking an enthusiastic intern to provide engineering assistance on a wide variety of engineering projects. This internship program aims to provide personal, one-on-one mentorship to candidates passionate about water resources, helping them realize their dreams of becoming successful Water Resources Engineers. During the internship, the successful candidate will use GIS applications to determine watershed characteristics and develop map exhibits, and perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses using a variety of water-related software (HY-8, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS). The intern will also support other engineering discipline groups (e.g., geotechnical, transportation, structural), perform field work, and provide construction administration support. Requirements

  • One to two years of college-level course work in pursuit of a baccalaureate degree in civil engineering, preferably with a focus on water.
  • Driving is an essential job function or a valid driver’s license is required to support legitimate business purposes.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical journals.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries from clients, co-workers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to co-workers.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Able to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts, such as statistics, probabilities, and trigonometry.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior work experience in construction or civil engineering related fields
  • ARC GIS & AutoCAD Civil 3D knowledge and experience is highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Assist with field investigations, analysis of alternative solutions, cost estimating, technical report writing, final design, and construction inspection.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses using computer applications such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and HY-8.
  • Other engineering related duties as assigned.
  • Use GIS applications to determine watershed characteristics and develop map exhibits.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses using a variety of water related software (HY-8, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS).
  • Support other engineering discipline groups (e.g., geotechnical, transportation, structural).
