About The Position

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. M&N also delivers large Navy and transportation projects including roadway and rail projects. We are actively looking for a Water Resources Engineer to join our San Diego office. As part of the Water Resources Group, the Water Resources Engineer will be expected to: develop surface water hydraulic, hydrologic, and hydrodynamic modeling; perform engineering calculations to solve problems related to surface water and drainage; analyze system flow, flood risk, and mitigation alternatives; address the prevention of flood damage and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal flood management regulations; prepare exhibits, reports, and presentations to illustrate findings and recommendations; prepare plans, specifications, estimates, and other documents; and liaise with different individuals and agencies, including government agencies, local authorities, and contractors. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering; required
  • 5 - 10+ years of related experience; required
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification; required
  • Background and/or experience with engineering analysis and design of various project types including a combination of:
  • Floodplain mapping and floodplain management and compliance with FEMA Floodplain Regulations and Standards
  • Stormwater hydrology and hydraulic modeling; stormwater and drainage infrastructure permitting and design
  • Watershed assessment & planning
  • Flood protection and resilience
  • Low impact development/green infrastructure
  • Preparing project scope and fee proposals
  • Construction principles, including survey, inspection, and engineering methods and materials, and surveying methods and techniques
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Serves as technical lead on projects and, as appropriate, oversees junior engineering staff on projects that include surface water hydrology & hydraulics, flood risk management, and estuarine/ coastal restoration and protection.
  • Perform numerical modeling in support of stormwater and drainage improvement projects
  • Perform 1D and 2D riverine hydraulic modeling
  • Prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates, in support of final bid packages
  • Participate in design activities and meetings between project team members, subcontractors, and client managers
  • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, feasibility, cost, construction approaches, and scheduling performance
  • Prepares graphics, reports, and presentations
  • Resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways
