About The Position

AECOM is seeking a Hydrology and Hydraulics Modeller for our Water Resources Group in British Columbia, Canada. This role involves completing hydrological and climate change analysis, modeling urban sanitary and stormwater systems, drinking water systems, and floodplain modeling. The position also includes supporting model calibration, designing green infrastructure, developing surface/ground water balances, and collaborating with various specialized teams on nature-based infrastructure and erosion control. The role requires efficient use of GIS, data management, preparation of technical reports and figures, and assisting with project scopes and budgets. Strong communication and presentation skills are essential for interacting with project teams and clients.

Requirements

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Physical Geography or Science related field
  • Minimum two years of work experience in hydrology and hydraulic modelling.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with industry standard hydrologic and hydraulic modelling software (HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, InfoWorks ICM, PCSWMM, MIKE, R/Python Coding, GoldSIM, Flow-3D, etc.).
  • Experience using GIS for model development and mapping.
  • Experience to perform detailed model input data processing (pre‑processing) and model output analysis (post‑processing) using data analysis and programming tools such as MS Excel, VBA, Python, MATLAB, R, or similar platforms.
  • Demonstration of strong attention to detail and a high standard of accuracy in technical work.
  • Experience with coastal engineering software (MIKE 21, Delft3D, XBEACH, SWAN, etc.).
  • Knowledge and understanding of hydraulic behaviour and channel/flood risk management structures and how to replicate these within modelling software.
  • Knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic engineering concepts and numerical modeling through coursework.
  • Interest in long‑term technical specialization in modelling.
  • Demonstration of commercial awareness and the ability to support the team to deliver projects on time and budget.

Responsibilities

  • Complete hydrological and climate change analysis using Raven, HEC-HMS, statistical methods, etc.
  • Model urban sanitary and stormwater systems and combined urban/river systems using InfoWorks ICM, PCSWMM and MIKE+.
  • Collaborate with Engineers to advise clients on system performance and future upgrades for capital planning.
  • Model drinking water system modelling using InfoWater or WaterCAD, including the development of future scenarios.
  • Develop and analyze 1D and 2D floodplain modelling using HEC-RAS 2D and MIKE+.
  • Support sensitivity analyses, calibration, and QA/QC of models.
  • Model and design of green infrastructure such as ponds, infiltration galleries, raingardens, bioswales, etc.
  • Collaborate with AECOM hydrogeological and mining teams to develop surface/ground water balance.
  • Collaborate with coastal engineers, biologists and landscape architects to model and design nature-based infrastructure like living shorelines, restored wetlands, amphibious public parks and other flood protection systems, etc.
  • Collaborate with geomorphologists to model and develop engineered solutions for river crossings and erosion and scour protection.
  • Efficiently work with GIS software in support of hydrology and hydraulic modelling assignments.
  • Manage datasets and geospatial information.
  • Prepare high-standard technical reports.
  • Develop figures, maps and visualization tools.
  • Assist in the development of scopes of work and budgets for water resources projects or for water resources components of larger projects (i.e. multi-disciplinary).
  • Communicate and work with other project team members and clients, providing a high standard of technical excellence to support all documentation conforming to client/company standards.
  • Develop presentation skills, clearly articulate thoughts and to think in a critically matter in relation to project development.
  • Present, discuss, promote and defend design solutions to AECOM project teams and clients.
