Currently, the Town's North Cary Water Reclamation Facility (NCWRF) is recruiting individuals for the position of Mechanic/Operator I. This position will be primarily focused on the maintenance and repair responsibilities within this classification but will be expected to be able to fill-in as a treatment plant operator if needed. Therefore, this job post includes descriptions of the duties of both job classifications. The Mechanic/Operator I performs technical and skilled work in the operation and maintenance of the water reclamation facility. Employees primarily assigned to maintenance duties work a normal 8-hour shift with occasional callback/stand-by duties for emergency maintenance and operational issues, while people primarily in an operations capacity work 12-hour shifts. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor. WRF positions are part of our established career ladder program that provides for the advancement of staff members in eligible positions who demonstrate increasing levels of knowledge, skills, and abilities. Depending upon the level of attainment in the career ladder, an employee may have lead worker duties over other plant personnel. Anticipated Hiring Range: $56,867.20 - $66,185.60. Applicants who possess relevant certifications and experience may be eligible for higher starting pay. PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT an operator position. This vacancy IS A MECHANIC POSITION which will have treatment plant operator responsibilities on a fill-in basis only. Water Reclamation Facility positions are "critical positions", meaning you are required to report to work during adverse weather or other emergency situations, to maintain equipment and/or assist the Division in any capacity necessary to continue Town operations. Therefore, employees in this role must also live within fifty (50) miles of the facility and respond to the facility within one (1) hour when fulfilling callback/stand-by duties.
