About The Position

Environmental Science Associates (ESA) is seeking a full-time Field Technician/Scientist to provide field support for the South Florida Water Management District’s (SFWMD) Water Quality Bureau. This role is based at the SFWMD Field Station in Okeechobee, FL, and involves monitoring water quality to meet permit requirements, legal mandates, and support management decisions for restoration. The position is primarily field-based with some laboratory work required. The team works a four 10-hour day schedule, Monday through Thursday.

Requirements

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a natural science or related field.
0-2 years of professional experience.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to lift 55 lbs.
Ability to work daily in remote, hot, humid, and wet conditions in habitats occupied by alligators, snakes, and stinging/biting insects.
Comfortable working in the field and occasionally in a laboratory setting.
Must pass a background check.
Valid Florida driver's license.

Nice To Haves

Experience in field sampling techniques for surface water.
Experience working with field and water quality equipment.
Experience trailering and operating powerboats (up to 23 feet in length).

Responsibilities

Collect manual and electronic surface water quality and/or ecological and biological samples.
Operate, clean, calibrate, and maintain monitoring equipment, including multi-parameter water quality sondes and automatic water samplers.
Prepare samples for laboratory analysis.
Clean and maintain sampling platforms and sites.
Use vegetation control equipment and basic hand tools.
