About The Position

Environmental Science Associates (ESA) is seeking a full-time Field Technician/Scientist to provide field support for the South Florida Water Management District’s (SFWMD) Water Quality Bureau. This role involves monitoring water quality to comply with permit requirements and support management decisions for restoration. The position is primarily field-based with some laboratory work required, operating on a four 10-hour day schedule, Monday through Thursday. The technician will collect surface water samples, operate and maintain monitoring equipment, prepare samples for analysis, and maintain sampling platforms and sites.

Requirements

Associate's or bachelor's degree in a natural science or related field.
0-2 years of professional experience.
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Able to lift 55 lbs.
Able to work daily in remote, hot, humid, and wet conditions in habitats occupied by alligators, snakes, and stinging/biting insects.
Comfortable working in the field and occasionally in a laboratory setting.
Must pass a background check.
Valid Florida driver's license required.

Nice To Haves

Experience in field sampling techniques for surface water.
Experience working with field and water quality equipment.
Experience trailering and operating powerboats (up to 23 feet in length).

Responsibilities

Collect manual and electronic surface water quality and/or ecological and biological samples.
Operate, clean, calibrate and maintain monitoring equipment, including multi-parameter water quality sondes, and automatic water samplers.
Prepare samples for laboratory analysis.
Clean and maintain sampling platforms and sites, using vegetation control equipment and basic hand tools.
