About The Position

The City of Huntsville’s Water Pollution Control department is seeking qualified applicants to fill our WPC Facilities Technician position. This is journeyman level facility maintenance work performing maintenance and repair work on facilities and equipment. Work involves performing electrical, painting, carpentry, electronics and plumbing repair, refrigeration, heating and air conditioning, masonry and maintenance work on WPC buildings and machinery.

Requirements

  • High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED Certificate issued by the appropriate state agency is required.
  • Experience and proficiency in at least one technical field such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, carpentry, masonry and general construction at the journeyman level required.
  • Possession of journeyman level certification in at least one technical field such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, carpentry, masonry and/or general construction or an equivalent amount of years of experience as a journeyman.
  • Must have a valid Alabama Driver's License.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama Commercial Driver's License, Class B or must be obtained within one year of hire or promotion date.
  • May require possession of a freon certification card depending on job assignments.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from a technical college accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education is desired.
