The Village of Carol Stream's Public Works Department seeks a qualified and motivated individual to serve under the direction of the Utilities Supervisor, as the lead operator in the function and maintenance of the Village's potable water system. Position performs manual and skilled work in the operation, cleaning, construction, repair, and maintenance of the water pumping, storage, distribution and treatment systems (including SCADA), as well as several storm and sanitary sewer lift stations in accordance with local and federal regulatory standards. Duties include maintaining proper operating condition of mechanical equipment, pumping pressure, water flow, treatment standards and records, as well as oversight of contractors working on the same equipment. Gathers required water samples from throughout the distribution system, including emergency backup wells, for laboratory tests and analysis as required by State of Illinois and U.S. EPA. Assists in other Water/Sewer division activities including, but not limited to, the repair of water main breaks, service leaks and the maintenance, repair and flushing of all system hydrants as the need arises. Responds to alarm conditions (SCADA) of water and sewer facilities and assists in the response to water and sewer related emergencies. Assists in preparation of required monthly and annual reports. Keeps up to date with changes and rules set by the Illinois EPA and US EPA to ensure compliance. Selected candidate must be capable of detecting health and safety hazards, performing thorough inspections and necessary repairs of equipment, as well as ability and willingness to respond to calls outside of the regular workday. The ability to communicate and interact effectively with employees and the public is essential.
