About The Position

This position assists in the operation of a water treatment plant. This position requires daily plant site operations in order to maintain safe and aesthetically pleasing water. Employee will be required to handle hazardous chemicals. The employee may also be responsible for the ground maintenance program, janitorial duties, and compound security on a shift. The employee reports to Water Production Superintendent.

Requirements

  • High school or general education degree (GED) from an accredited institution is required.
  • Ability to utilize all features afforded by computer technology software, report writing programs and other required software and micro-computer equipment utilized by the assigned work unit.
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered for minimum requirements.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.
  • Possess and maintain Class “C” Operators License issued by the FDEP is required.
  • Must be First Aid and CPR/AED certified or get certified within one (1) year of hire.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and write neatly.
  • Ability to deal with the general public in a professional, courteous manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
  • Ability to follow and apply common sense understanding, to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.
  • Ability to read and comprehend safety manuals, work orders, and operation guides.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations when immediate guidance from the supervisor may not be available .
  • Extensive knowledge of the treatment process and the maintenance and repair of the plant equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge of current SCADA operation
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to maintain shift records and perform routine chemical analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Operates the water plant and is responsible for a shift.
  • Reports any operational deficiencies to supervisor
  • Must be available for after hours call outs
  • Maintaining adequate chemical supplies for daily operations
  • Maintains daily logs and records.
  • Checks all equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance.
  • Performs minor laboratory work.
  • May operate equipment on occasion, such as tractor, and trucks.
  • Answers telephone calls and dispatches emergency crew.
  • Monitors and operates computers for alarms and proper operation of water plants.
  • Other duties as assigned.
