About The Position

The Village of Carol Stream’s Public Works Department is seeking a motivated individual to work toward full certification as a Water Plant Operator. Responsibilities include assisting with maintenance, repair, construction, and inspection of water systems and sewer lift stations, collecting water samples for laboratory analysis in compliance with state and federal regulations, supporting inventory management of equipment and supplies, and contributing to accurate data collection and recordkeeping. Additionally, this position participates in daily inspections of water equipment and control systems with increasing responsibility to ensure safe and reliable water service. The selected candidate will also participate in the operation and maintenance of SCADA and related systems, respond to water and sewer emergencies, contribute to a variety of Water and Sewer division activities, as well as participate in snow removal operations as needed. The selected candidate must have the ability and willingness to respond to calls outside of the regular workday.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or Equivalent
  • Minimum of one year of experience in water system operations
  • Valid Illinois Driver’s License
  • At least six months of exposure to the operation of various electrical and mechanical devices pertinent to the operation of a water and sewer system

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced education in a related field will be considered as part of overall experience
  • Obtain a Class B CDL License with air brakes and tanker endorsement within 2 years
  • Obtain Certification as an Illinois Water Supply Operator with a minimum of Class “C” in Training designation within three years
