About The Position

Instruct group classes; provide excellent service to members in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. This is a part time position and classes are offered Mondays through Friday between 8:30 am and 11:30 pm.

Requirements

At least one year experience leading fitness classes
General knowledge of exercise training and leadership, including basic anatomy, physiology, and exercise principles
Physically fit in order to demonstrate all phases of aerobic exercises.
Mentally alert to recognize potential hazards and accidents.
Able to hear and follow the beat of the music and have visual ability to observe class participants during workout.
Able to vocalize cues and use equipment properly.
Current YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard
Current YMCA or USWFA Water Fitness Instructor Certification
Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, O2 and First Aid certifications

Responsibilities

Lead water fitness classes following YMCA or USWFA Instructor Guidelines, Protocols, and Visions of Excellence
Enforce aquatic rules and policies
Prepare progressive exercise plans for program participants
Record and maintain attendance records daily
Set up facility or equipment, store equipment, and secure facility and equipment upon completion of each class
Act as a Primary Responder in case of injury, accident, or illness in pool area and provide backup to lifeguards as needed in emergencies and crowd control.
Report injuries and complete required forms
Support and follow YMCA policies and decisions and answer member questions about the YMCA and its programs and fitness related questions
Attend staff meetings
Plans and implements a program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA
Coordinates activities which are culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate
Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures
