About The Position

The Water Fitness Instructor facilitates engaging and safe water fitness classes, creating a positive environment that supports member wellness and fosters community engagement. Instructors ensure classes meet the needs of diverse participants, promoting the YMCA’s mission and values.

Requirements

• Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification (American Red Cross, HSI, or American Heart Association accepted).
• Proven experience leading group water fitness classes.
• Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

• Specialized certifications (e.g., SilverSneakers Splash, Aqua Zumba) required for specific classes.
• YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead energizing, educational, and safe water fitness classes that align with program goals and objectives.
• Create an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere where individuals feel respected and valued. Build relationships with members and program participants to support their health and wellness goals.
• Understand and accommodate diverse health needs, adjusting instruction to support participants' physical conditions, capabilities, and cultural backgrounds. Follow YMCA policies and procedures and respond promptly to emergency situations.
• Stay informed on wellness trends and incorporate effective strategies to enhance class experiences. Identify and celebrate member successes to encourage ongoing participation and achievement.
• Ensure the cleanliness and organization of program areas by following department protocols to clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces.
• Maintain accurate attendance records for all classes.
• Maintain working knowledge of wellness trends to provide effective guidance and support to members. Obtain and maintain specialized certifications required for certain classes, such as SilverSneakers Splash or Aqua Zumba.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
