Safe drinking water, wastewater treatment, and flood protection are essential to public health, environmental protection, and economic stability. At HDR, our Water Business Group designs and delivers the infrastructure that makes communities work. As a Water EIT, you will help plan and design real projects that move from concept to construction. You will work alongside experienced engineers, learn directly from project managers, and see how engineering decisions become built solutions. We are committed to equipping our teams with modern digital tools, including AI-enabled solutions that streamline delivery, enhance quality, and improve client experience. You will have access to ongoing training and support to apply these tools in practical, meaningful ways. You will participate in design, analysis, meetings, and problem solving while building the experience needed to earn your Professional Engineer license. As an EIT, you will support real, high-visibility infrastructure projects and learn directly from technical experts and project managers who are leading water work across the industry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent field
  • Interest or experience analyzing and designing water focused systems
  • Experience with production, simulation, and automation such as BIM systems, numerical modeling platforms, and other production tools
  • Microsoft Office experience
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in Alaska.
  • EIT preferred, those hired without an EIT will be called W/WW Designer and expected to obtain EIT for career progression within the first year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning level, preliminary, and detailed engineering design under the guidance of a Project Engineer
  • Prepare calculations, technical memoranda, reports, and construction documents
  • Support development of plans and specifications for infrastructure projects
  • Perform engineering analyses, modeling, and alternative evaluations
  • Participate in equipment sizing, selection, and design development
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and environmental staff
  • Participate in project meetings and interact with clients and stakeholders
  • Support field investigations and construction phase services when applicable
  • Perform quality control reviews checking and contribute to QA/QC processes
  • Use design and production tools including BIM platforms, modeling software, and other engineering applications
  • Build data analysis and visualization solutions
  • Apply digital and AI-enabled tools to enhance project planning, coordination, and documentation
