About The Position

As a Water Control Manager, you would manage the Water Control Department, which is responsible for water deliveries and the 24/7 operation of the CAP aqueduct system. The CAP aqueduct system consists of 336 miles of canal, siphons and tunnels, check structures, turnouts, pumping plants, underground storage and recharge facilities, one pump/generating plant and a major reservoir and dam. This role involves managing the department, maintaining operational control and situational awareness of the CAP, leading the development of the CAP Annual Operating Plan (AOP), directing the engineering and administration of the CAP industrial controls systems, and overseeing hydraulic capacity analysis of the CAP aqueduct and pipelines.

Requirements

  • An accredited Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in a relevant engineering field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which must include a high school diploma/GED plus an additional five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Ten (10) years progressive experience in applicable field, including at least three (3) years of experience supervising professionals or multi-disciplined crafts.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and explain performance standards, measures, and accomplishments.
  • Must have a firm commitment to business purpose and professional career development.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, conflict resolution and customer service skills.
  • Good communication and leadership skills.
  • Must have a valid Arizona driver's license and maintain a good driving record. If candidate is hired from outside of Arizona, they will be required to obtain an Arizona driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Possessing and maintaining an Arizona Registered Professional Engineer (PE) designation is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the Water Control Department. Establish a clear mission for the Department that aligns with the organization’s mission, values and strategic objectives. Accomplishes department objectives by setting employee goals, effectively delegating and collaborating with other cross functional managers and employees. Leads by building trust and teamwork, providing regular performance feedback, and coaching employee development.
  • Maintains operational control and situational awareness of the Central Arizona Project (CAP) by overseeing department staffing and development, outage scheduling, business process and standard operating procedures development, and championing reliability.
  • Leads the development of the CAP Annual Operating Plan (AOP), collaborating closely with CAP Water Users, Water Policy, Engineering, Maintenance, and the Power departments. Coordinates Colorado River water diversions.
  • Directs the engineering and administration of the CAP industrial controls systems.
  • Oversees hydraulic capacity analysis of the CAP aqueduct and pipelines.
