About The Position

The Sanitation Districts clean the wastewater of over 5 million people and turn it into resources 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Through the operation of 11 wastewater treatment facilities, approximately 510 million gallons per day (MGD) of wastewater are treated, with 165 MGD available for reuse. All of the water reclamation plants are strategically located throughout the County to maximize water reuse and to easily return the cleaned water to local waterways, storage reservoirs, or the Pacific Ocean. We are now recruiting for a skilled Wastewater Treatment System Mechanic at our Los Coyotes Water Reclamation Plant in Cerritos. The essential functions of this position are to perform more skilled preventive repair and maintenance of stationary equipment and machinery in a wastewater treatment facility. Specialized mechanical machinery used includes, but is not limited to, turbines, boilers, stationary and mobile engines, blowers, various types of pumps such as gear, vane, centrifugal, vertical turbine, and reciprocating, centrifugal and reciprocating air compressors, various types of gearboxes, and hydraulic systems.

Requirements

  • Possess a valid California Class C driver's license.
  • Four years performing directly related skilled maintenance or craft duties involving the repair and overhaul of a variety of comparable machinery and equipment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Class A or B California driver's license within six (6) months of appointment.
  • Must obtain a crane certification from the State of California.
  • Must be medically cleared to wear a respiratory protection device and pass a pulmonary function test annually.
  • Must not wear contact lenses nor have facial hair that would prevent the safe and proper fit of a self-contained breathing apparatus.

Nice To Haves

  • Twelve semester units of college coursework or completion of one year of a two-year trade school in a mechanical technology or closely related program may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  • Graduation from a two-year trade school in a mechanical technology or closely related program may be substituted for two years of the required experience.
