About The Position

Under direction, develops, plans and oversees the operation and maintenance of Washoe County’s wastewater reclamation plants; and performs related work as required. This is an Open Competitive/Countywide Promotional recruitment being conducted to fill a current full-time vacancy in the Community Services Department. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

Requirements

  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in wastewater treatment/reclamation in a Nevada Grade IV Wastewater Treatment Plant including one year of supervisory or lead experience.
  • An associate degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, environmental engineering, chemistry, biology or a closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a General Education Development (G.E.D.) Certificate, per NAC 445A.2862.
  • A valid Class “C” State of Nevada Driver's License is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
  • A Nevada Grade III Wastewater Plant Operator certificate is required at the time of application and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
  • A Nevada Grade IV Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate must be obtained within six (6) months of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
  • Must reside in the state of Nevada or neighboring California communities such as Truckee, South Lake Tahoe or Susanville as of their first day of work.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, plans and oversees the operation and maintenance of Washoe County’s wastewater reclamation plants.
  • Use sound judgment and data-driven decision making to analyze operational trends, laboratory results, and process information to optimize plant performance, improve efficiency, and ensure permit compliance.
  • Effectively lead, mentor, coach and develop staff while fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, continuous learning and workplace safety.
  • Manage multiple priorities, regulatory requirements, contracts, maintenance activities, and daily operational demands.
  • Communicate technical information clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with staff, regulatory agencies, consultants, and other stakeholders.
  • Embrace innovation and continuous improvement by identifying practical, cost-effective solutions that enhance treatment processes, operational reliability, and customer service.
  • Ensure the reliable, efficient, and compliant operation of the County’s wastewater treatment facilities.

  • Eligible employees may receive an annual merit increase of 5% until they reach the maximum salary for the classification.
