About The Position

Under direction, develops, plans and oversees the operation and maintenance of Washoe County’s wastewater reclamation plants; and performs related work as required. This is an Open Competitive/Countywide Promotional recruitment being conducted to fill a current full-time vacancy in the Community Services Department. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

Requirements

Four years of progressively responsible experience in wastewater treatment/reclamation in a Nevada Grade IV Wastewater Treatment Plant including one year of supervisory or lead experience.
An associate degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, environmental engineering, chemistry, biology or a closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Graduation from high school or possession of a General Education Development (G.E.D.) Certificate, per NAC 445A.2862.
A valid Class “C” State of Nevada Driver's License is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
A Nevada Grade III Wastewater Plant Operator certificate is required at the time of application and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
A Nevada Grade IV Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate must be obtained within six (6) months of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
Must reside in the state of Nevada or neighboring California communities such as Truckee, South Lake Tahoe or Susanville as of their first day of work.

Responsibilities

Develops, plans and oversees the operation and maintenance of Washoe County’s wastewater reclamation plants.
Use sound judgment and data-driven decision making to analyze operational trends, laboratory results, and process information to optimize plant performance, improve efficiency, and ensure permit compliance.
Effectively lead, mentor, coach and develop staff while fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, continuous learning and workplace safety.
Manage multiple priorities, regulatory requirements, contracts, maintenance activities, and daily operational demands.
Communicate technical information clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with staff, regulatory agencies, consultants, and other stakeholders.
Embrace innovation and continuous improvement by identifying practical, cost-effective solutions that enhance treatment processes, operational reliability, and customer service.
Ensure the reliable, efficient, and compliant operation of the County’s wastewater treatment facilities.
