About The Position

This role involves operating wastewater treatment plants to ensure effluent quality meets permit requirements. Responsibilities vary by level, from direct operation and reporting to assisting with maintenance, process control, safety, and training. Higher levels may also handle special projects and regulatory concerns.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.
• First Aid/CPR certification.
• Wastewater Operator Class "D" certification (must obtain within two years for Operator I).
• Minimum of two years of experience in wastewater treatment principles and theory (for Operator II).
• Wastewater Operator Class "C" certification (for Operator II).
• Minimum of three years of experience in wastewater treatment principles and theory (for Operator III).
• Class B CDL (with tanker endorsement) is preferred (for III-IV levels).
• Wastewater Operator Class "B" certification (for Operator III).
• Biosolids/Residuals Operator’s Certification (for III-IV levels).
• Efficient in the use of computers and related software, e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. (for III-IV levels).
• Minimum of four years of experience in wastewater treatment principles and theory (for Operator IV).
• Wastewater Operator Class "A" certification for more than one year (for Operator IV).

Nice To Haves

• Class B CDL (with tanker endorsement) is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operates assigned wastewater treatment plants in accordance with established guidelines, regulations, standards, and rules.
• Ensures the quality of effluent meets NPDES permit requirements.
• Assists the Lead Operator in the day-to-day operation of assigned treatment facilities/programs.
• Assists with maintenance, process control, safety, and training requirements for the assigned section of the WWT Department.
• Undertakes special projects and provides assistance with regulatory concerns (for III-IV levels).
• Works towards advancement through Biological Wastewater progressions (Trainee D to C to B to A) in a scheduled timeframe.
