About The Position

This position is responsible for controlling the Wastewater treatment plant's systems and equipment to purify and clarify water for permitted industrial discharge at a facility in Hemlock, MI. The role involves maintaining complete operational coverage of the Wastewater facility throughout all scheduled shifts, operating and controlling electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate water flow, and collecting and testing wastewater samples to determine concentration levels and impurities. The technician will analyze lab data to identify potential treatment issues and implement process changes to prevent non-compliance, while maintaining accurate record keeping. Coordination with other operators, the Wastewater facility, and Veolia management is crucial for maintaining equipment and determining optimal treatment methods. The role also includes completing preventative maintenance, assisting with minor maintenance projects, compiling data for operating reports, and ordering supplies. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Willingness to learn and ability to take instructions on Wastewater treatment processes
  • Ability and desire to build and maintain a "team mentality"
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and written
  • Independent decision-making and judgment for commonly encountered problems
  • Ability to develop creative and innovative ideas to improve processes
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google equivalent
  • Ability to make process changes based on lab data and general process knowledge
  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 75 pounds, climb vertical ladders up to 30 feet, stand for long periods, walk on uneven surfaces, and maneuver in tight spaces
  • Ability to work both day and night shifts as needed
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Responsibilities

  • Maintain complete operational coverage of the Wastewater facility throughout all scheduled shifts (primarily 12-hour night shifts)
  • Operate and control electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate water flow
  • Collect and test wastewater samples to determine concentration levels and impurities
  • Analyze lab data to identify potential treatment issues and implement process changes to prevent non-compliance
  • Maintain accurate record keeping of client data
  • Coordinate with other operators, Wastewater facility, and Veolia management to maintain wastewater treatment equipment and determine optimal treatment methods
  • Complete all preventative maintenance at designated frequencies
  • Assist with minor maintenance projects including chemical pump repair, valve replacement, and piping installation
  • Compile data for daily, weekly, or monthly operating reports to Veolia and Wastewater facility management
  • May compile data for EPA or state regulatory bodies
  • Coordinate with Veolia purchasing department to order wastewater treatment supplies
  • Coordinate with Facility to schedule third-party maintenance support
